RadioCBC began as a radio station, WRAL-AM, in 1938, and became WRAL-FM on September 6, 1946, the area's first FM station. As the oldest continuously operated FM station in this part of the country, that station still broadcasts today, as a contemporary mix of music from the 80s, 90s & today. Hailed as a station you can listen to with the kids in the car, MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM holds the #1 fundraiser for Duke's Children's Hospital each year with a week-long radiothon. WRAL-FM also became the first radio station on the east coast to broadcast a high-definition (HD) signal. The North Carolina News Network also operates under the umbrella of WRAL-FM. CBC went country in 2005 with the launch of WCMC-FM 99.9 Genuine Country, also in the Raleigh-Durham market, and will soon convert the station to a sports talk format. NCNN creates newscasts broadcast around the state, annually winning awards for excellence in news gathering & community service.
