Alive After Five
When the warm weather arrives in the Triangle, MIX 101.5 takes to the out-of-doors for Alive After Five. Presented every other Thursday in the spring and summer months, the Alive After Five concert series is free and open to the public.
The series began in 1986 as an effort to attract more people to downtown Raleigh and provide a safe place for people to gather and enjoy music and make new friends. Now over 7,000 people stop by after work to socialize and hear music from acts such as the Voltage Brothers, Liquid Pleasure, Papa Sol and Chairmen of the Board.
In 2004 the Alive After Five franchise expanded to include Durham. Set in the renovated American Tobacco Historic District, the concerts attract downtown Durham employees after work and Durham Bulls fans on their way to the ballgame across the street among others. American Tobacco, FOX 50 and CBC's newest radio station, The New 99.9 Genuine Country WCMC-FM, are all sponsors of the Durham event.
Triangle residents gather on the Fayetteville Street Mall adjacent to the Civic Center in downtown Raleigh to hear performances from some of the regions' hottest bands. Due to ongoing construction on the new Convention Center and the reopening of Fayetteville Street to traffic, Alive After Five has temporarily relocated to Glenwood South.
Concerts in Raleigh and Durham begin around 6:00pm. Concertgoers can can purchase food and beverages from the vendors who set up shop around the event and the many great restaurants located on the perimeter of the concert area.
